Front Motor Mount Springs
I have what looks like the original style front motor mount. I have more vibration than I like, so I ordered a rebuild kit. The springs in the kit are much smaller, punier looking than what is now on the car. Question is, where did my current beefier springs come from? Original or some other after-market that is currently not in the supplier's kits?

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
Are your springs connected together? There was a popular kit often called the beehive mount, because the springs bulged in the center like a beehive.

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
If it looks like this it is after market and usually makes the front of the engine
sit to high. |

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
The springs look like the Bob C picture, but I can't see or feel a connection between the too. It may be down under the center mounting bolt. The engine does sit a little high in front. I can't get an original style crank rod to line up. There seems to be a rubber grommet/bushing inside the springs. What should I replace this with if I decide to go that way?

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
Most folks with the beehive springs just go back to bone stock and usually report improvement.

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
That's what I did. Those rubbers inside the beehive springs had turned as hard as concrete.

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
The front engine support bushing is the brass washer-shaped part pictured on the right of gdmn852's photo. It's commonly said that Ford discontinued use of the washer around Jan. '29 because it wasn't allowing the engine to move and flex the way it needed to – but I'm not sure where the documentation of this change is. I've only seen it referred to indirectly. It's also not clear how much the removal of this part had to do with the quality of '20s roads, in which case we might not need to remove it.

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
I have the repro springs with the rubber plugs in the springs, hard as a rock. I took a punch & knocked them out, got lucky, now the engine sits perfect.

Re: Front Motor Mount Springs
Hello again, on the car I am working on the bushing must have been missing for awhile, the yoke bolt and cross member hole both show wear. The hardest part to do this job is to keep the springs where they belong and getting lower spring up to get nut started on it,also make the hand crank lines up with crank shaft.
