1946 Mercury front spring
Tried the search function, but couldn't find anything.
Is a spring spreader necessary to remove the front spring from a '46 Mercury? My springs are broken, sagging and generally worn out. Need to replace them, but I don't want to start and have them fly all over me and the garage. Thanks. Butch |

Re: 1946 Mercury front spring
No, it should have a pan bar and the spring is not in tension on the shackles. It does however have the weight of the car on it. You need to support the car/frame weight on a jack stand and jack under the spring end to hold it and lower it down.

Thanks, JSeery. I thought that was right, but I'm getting old.
