Thread size of the oil pressure hole in the back of the 51 8BA flathead ford block
On my dads 51 ford 8BA flathead engine there are 2 holes in the back of the block one has a line running to the oil filter which is fine the other has a fitting with a reducer then the oil pressure gauge line comes out of it and goes to the gauge. Well I want to try and find a threaded fitting that screws into the block and is the correct size for the oil pressure line on the other end.(adaptor threded on both ends but large on one side and small on the other) Right now we have 2 brass ftgs and they leak. I thought the potential for a leak would be reduced if it was 1 ftg anyone know where to buy one. Or do they make a ftg that anyone knows of just for this......Thankyou.....Dave

Normally the holes in the block a 1/4" pipe. There are at least 3 different possibilities for adapter fittings, flare, inverted flare or compression. (who knows what may have been installed over the years).
Only you can make the determination as to what size and type you have. |

As stated, at least 3 different possibilities.
Remove what you have to compare. Brass fittings available at most hardware or hydraulic supply stores.

I found using teflon tape is a good idea.

Agreed. Not on fuel lines and not even on oil furnace supply lines due to possibility of pieces clogging filters, jets & nozzles. Jack E/NJ |

I agree with the non users of Teflon tape, DON'T.......if you need to tighten up the threads, candle wicking into the threads with Permatex over that, is another choice........
