Question REQUEST FOR INFO: What are the make, model, and specifications of this aluminum head?

Can someone help us figure out what is the make, model, and specifications of this aluminum cylinder head? From what I understand, it could be for an aircraft of some kind. The compression for the four cylinders ranged from 70.0 to 73.5 psi which makes me suspect that it is a around a 5.5 to 1 compression ratio? Maybe more? A cursory look at the head revealed a couple of markings, one that simply says "19," and a second one that is the registration symbol a circle around an "R". There are probably more markings, but at this point, I don't know what I am looking for.

If you can help us out, it would be greatly appreciated.

What makes you think it is aluminum? Did you check with a magnet? Just wondering.

Let me start by saying Welcome to Fordbarn!!

Realistically, you cannot tell a lot until you see the combustion chamber where you can compare it to others whom we know the manufacturer and what their chamber looked like.

As far as aero inspired, maybe but probably not. Most powerplants that I have seen of homebuilt planes (Peitenpol, etc.) all used stock heads because of the budget. Granted there were exceptions. I have a Funk head that is alloy however it has around 4½ compression ratio and was set-up for an inverted engine. I would guess your head was probably made by someone like Dan Iandola back in the 60s or 70s. Again, you really need to see the combustion chamber design to have a better idea. Until then, go enjoy.

Yes, my model A mechanic friend had a lamp for working on the engine which has a magnet on the end opposite of the light. He could not get it to stick to the cylinder head. And we looked more closely at the metal under the paint (which is not sticking well) and it is the color you would expect from aluminum. If it is not aluminum, it is certainly a non-magnetic metal (But it makes more sense to be aluminum.

Okay then it is aluminum. If you ever have the head off like Brent said, you can solve the mystery!

The head does not leak, so I am loathe to take it off just to find out what kind of head it is. So, as long as there is no issue with the head, especially no leaking, I won't take it off. Until it comes off....
