New camshaft availability
I am in the process of buying parts for an engine build. I have been unable to locate a new cam. I would like to find a .330 or .340 lift Stipe, but they are not expecting to get new stock until August. Where are the engine builders getting their cams now? Who supplies a good regrind, and what are their specs?
Thanks! |

As a last resort, if a cam has a good gear the journals can usually be sleeved to any required size. It ain't cheap though. |

Re: New camshaft availability
The specs on the Burtz cams are given on their web site. It should be a good touring cam as it has good lift and not too much duration, so good torque.

Re: New camshaft availability
Synchro909,
The material is a modern nodular iron alloy. It has 5 bearings. The interfaces agree with Ford drawing A-6250. The front bearing is grooved to line up with the oil feed hole. Radial and axial oil passages connect to the groove and lubricate the face of the A-6275 plunger. The lobes are induction hardened to Rc 58/62. The bearings and gear teeth are induction hardened to Rc 40/52 to prevent gear teeth brittleness. The lobe lift is .340 inches. The lobe separation is 113 cam degrees. The duration is 248 crankshaft degrees with valves seated. |

Re: New camshaft availability
I bought a cam from Terry and can vouch that it is very good quality.

Re: New camshaft availability
Terry and others, Thanks for the info. It does indeed sound like a very good touring cam. As I have said before, my touring is done with camper in tow so good torque is essential.
I'll order one as soon as USPS can get it here. There is no indication when that will be.

Synchro,
Dean Roberts ([email protected]) is our distributor for Australia. Parts are sent directly to Dean which avoids USA customs, and shipping may be cheaper. |

Re: New camshaft availability
Original or Colony CM102-8 single lock tappets are recommended.
Other tappets will also work. Some offshore tappets do not have the quality of Colony tappets. |

Re: New camshaft availability
I am using the two wrench tappets from Snyders with my Burtz cam. Part # A-6500-SL-Q8. My new engine does not have the cut down tappet guides so I had to raise the tappet to adjust it and then lower it to measure it. I used the "rule of 9" where #1 was measured while #8 was up and visa versa. 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs 5. To save time I adjusted the one that was up while measuring the one that was down and went back and forth. I adjusted the valves with the cam gear installed but not the crank gear. That made it easier too. The tappets from Snyders are USA made.
