Default Lincoln clusters?

I've found some clusters, the tooth count is 25,22,16,14. Two lugs at back behind the rev gear. What would they be for? Labelled as Ford, but I dunno? What say you?

LZ gears came with this cluster set. Portion of a table shown on Vanpelt's site.

LZ gears are stamped Ford, so if the count checks out they should be. The LZ 26 tooth set I have also has the tang on the back of the cluster. It uses a trust washer designed to sit around that tang

I took a quick look at my gear catalogs and couldn’t find the match. One thing I can say…..it’s NOT a Lincoln Zephyr gear from the 1940-48 era. The diamond shaped first gear teeth are definitely 1949 and newer. If the bearing bore measures 1” diameter, the gear would be in the 1949-54 range. From 1955 on, the bore was larger. It’s possible that it was some sort of “speed gears “ offering from one of the gear manufacturers. If so, you’d have to have the matching “speed” second gear to work as a set.

I tried to find the 259-8D number in my gear catalogs but failed to find it. I suggest recounting the gear teeth….one or more of the counts you gave could be off one tooth. Report back to confirm the counts and I can have another look.

Well, a follow up...I've identified WT 259-8D as fitting 1954 Mercury

The 259-series transmissions were a carry over from the Ford/Borg Warner designs prior to the end of the flathead era. The diamond tooth designs came in for Ford products in 1951. Other manufacturers may have also used the 259-series since several manufacturers used the R10 overdrives. Ford used the 259 in certain light duty applications up into the early 60s. The bearings for the counter shaft changed from the caged design rollers to loose rollers in there somewhere. This is evident in the change of the bore ID of the cluster gears as Mac VP mentioned previously.
