Paint Number For 36 Ford
I need to match some paint that was used for late manufactured cars in 1936. “Benton Gray Metallic” I was able to get manufacture codes for the exterior and pen stripe colors but not the interior paint code. Before I go through the cost and expense of color matching, I thought that I would ask if someone may have the original paint code. I did find a formula for a DuPont mix, but my paint supplier cannot cross reference a formula they need the paint code.
Thanks in advance for any help. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Don't think any of the original paint codes will do you much good.

Re: Paint Number For 36 Ford
The best way to get a match is to have it matched by computer or a paint man that knows how to match it by eye.
It's a shot in the dark just using a old(or even new) paint code.

Re: Paint Number For 36 Ford
A good shop will have a device that the scan the original paint and determine a formula to match it. Find a place on the car that is sheltered from the elements, such as the inside of the glove box door. Few cars still have the original lacquer paint, and while enamel has been the standard, now water based paints are being used to reduce the outgassing of the others. Most colors can be duplicated using this method, as the old codes are obsolete.

Thanks for the correction. My car was manufactured in April. The restoration book says in May the color was changed to Russet Brown to harmonize with the Walnut grain dash. Prior to May the dash was Benton Gray Metallic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
