Full rear Bumper
Thinking about putting a full rear bumper on my coupe.
Looking for a few photos of coupes or any cars with a full rear bumper. Spent about a hour looking through some old model A magazines and most photos are front or side photos. Also do I need to change the bumper brackets my car has a rear spare tire |

Re: Full rear Bumper
Why not just get one of those new curved spare tire guards. I have one on my 31 sport coupe to protect my metal tire cover. Looks great.

Re: Full rear Bumper
I believe the full rear bumper is a front bumper. I'd have to look, but, I think there are pictures in the Judging Standards since it the last 'A' book I've read.

Re: Full rear Bumper
Was hoping for a photo or 2 as to what they looked like as most photos in magazines and on line tend to be front side I guess no one want to show off their rear end in public . With 2 suggestions for the spare tire guard, a option I had not thought of originally, I will also consider that as it also would give a finished look to the back bumper.

Re: Full rear Bumper
Ford put a full width rear bumper on cars that had at least one side mount. I do not think that you can mount a full width rear bumper with a rear mounted spare. The full width rear bumper is just a front bumper mounted on the rear. Be careful when you make the change because early 1930 vehicles had a 62" wide bumper. Late 30 and 1931 vehicles had a 60" bumper. When you make the change, you will have to make 2 spacers to replace the bumper support that goes between the rear bumper arms and the rear bumper cross brace. See the picture on page 4-16 of the 2011 Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards. I attached a picture of the rear bumper on my unrestored Victoria.

Re: Full rear Bumper
pics of the full rear bumper can be found in Jim Schild's book Ford Model A. # piece on pgs 68 and 105. Full one [front] pgs 9,20.89/97,107.

Re: Full rear Bumper
Bill that is good information
Patrick page #'s make I easy I will take a look at the book. In addition to the spare tire protector in the judging standards I found an ad in the unauthorized accessories book for a vendor that offered a deluxe spare protector and only $6 |
