Removed the H&C Distributor today and the H&C condenser bracket and the "show car" paint ( per Hoop post #24, and Terry HO, post #25 ) ,cleaned everything to establish a good ground, tightened a "loose nut" and reinstalled. I'll let you know the results after tomorrows test. !!

If one of the coils fails, you should continue to run on four cylinders. since the good coil would still have power directly from the battery.
Appreciate your suggestion, and I will definitely add this to my list of things to try.

I think you need to try some else like get a VW 4 cylinder coil IC66 Echlin or try a IC 14 coil. buy one and see if it runs on 4 cylinder. Wire the coil direct. If you paint it blue it will run cooler.LOL

Test today, and although this was a good move, it did not fix the problem. Still, no fire. Still searching.!!

When and engine shuts off is it over heating. do you have electric fan.
It sound to me you have a wiring problem.
Some times if you had electric fan, fuel pump, plus 2 coil .
For safety reason do you have a circuit brake in line with ign.
Run coil direct to bat. If over heating get electric fan.

This 35 Ford was at Owls Head Museum,
in Owlshead Maine today and looking like it,
I thought it had a HC Dist. Look at the 2 coils.
I found out it only runs on one.
They just switch out if one goes bad.
It has electric ign , looks like a good heat sink for the coils.
This car had 5 perfect times see under side mirror
.

Sounds like Ign. power erroniously wired thru the two terminal original temp guage sender.

Update: We spent the better part of this afternoon trouble shooting the ign. ignition system. With the help of "EBBSPEED" (post#39) who volunteered his services when I called for help. When it comes to electrical gremlin's in these ole cars this gentleman is the go too guy.! He has the expertise and equipment. We were able to sort out the system and found that we do have "fire" at the plug. Now what.? This took us to the fuel system. (See post#12 for a description of what it consists off) Even with all of the above "new equipment" we are not getting enough fuel when we need it, so now we need to sort out this system, one piece at a time. Several areas have already been addressed, and we will continue to look for more.

Our Thanks to "Ford Barn" and all of the reply's and suggestions. This is why we participate in these forum's. We're never to old to learn, and share our knowledge and experiences with these 'Ole Fords'.

We have a full schedule for this summer driving season and are anxious to get this 40' back on the road.

Great! Start with a clean gas tank and work your way forward checking each component along the way. Is your gas tank/cap vented. Also, figure out a way to mount your coil vertically. Check out this thread with the same problem.

Your fire at the plug - is it yellow (not very intense resulting in a no go like a bad condenser) or is it blue white (desirable)? If it quit at 200 dogs and ran before it got to 200 degrees, vapor lock? Do you have an electric pump at the tank? Turn it on to drive out the vapor lock.

We are taking this fuel (or lack of it) one step at a time, starting at the tank. Yes the gas tank/cap is vented. The coils are mounted vertically.

Thanks for your reply.

So we're we.!! This has been a difficult process.!! Think that we have the fuel situation figured out. I'll share that when we're sure.

Thanks for your help and your ongoing effort to support us ole Ford people that insist on running the ole crab style distributor.

Steve.

Most often when people say the car wouldn't start when hot meaning,
I stop to get gas or what ever and it wouldn't start.
What you were doing is waiting for it to stop on its own because it was over heating. So you have to get a new radiator ,put stock dist back in, set your timing .

It has been said on another forum that I also participate in, if their are no pictures, then it doesn't exist, so I thought that I would share this with you to show that we really do have an engine, and this is the same one that has been the subject of this post (before installation in the '40). Click to enlarge.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Steve & Patty.
