Default Just got pulled over for driving too much!

Lol! Just minutes ago. Cop said he sees me parked downtown too often. Gave me a written warning. He'll probably write me a ticket tomorrow night.

We used to have a similar law here, and thankfully it is gone. When the raised the registration price of antique plates to the same as passenger plates, the restriction went away.

He said "real nice car but I just wanted you to know the restrictions so you don't get in trouble."

Parking downtown?

Parking should be done at Lover's leap!
Especially if it is a Town Sedan with a big back seat.

Is there some limitation on the amount you can use the car written in the registration rules and regs or is it just the policeman's opinion? Has he counted the days and documented it? Sounds to me like he is a bit picky (or maybe jealous!)

Here is what Idaho has to say...

Any motor vehicle which
qualifies as an “Idaho Old Timer”
or an “Idaho Classic” shall be
used for exhibits, parades, tours,
club activities and such
occasional use as is necessary for
operation and maintenance of the
vehicle, and shall not be used for
business or commercial purposes
or as customary and usual
transportation

Idaho "classic" plates cost $3 every three years......

I have year of manufacture plates which cost a little more than regular plates, but no limitations...

Here's Ohio's...

"As used in this section, "historical motor vehicle" means any motor vehicle that is more than twenty-five years old and that is owned solely as a collector's item and for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and similar uses. A historical motor vehicle shall not be used for general transportation, but may be operated on the public roads and highways to and from a location where maintenance is performed on the vehicle."

That's why I still pay for regular plates. I know the law isn't enforced much in Oregon, but I'd rather avoid the hassle. I've been using my speedster a lot lately. To the point I might get rid of another vehicle.

There are two separate plates available here in Illinois now. The first restricts to parades and such and occasional use and the second is still antique car plates but allow for general all around use. They cost a little more but are worth the peace of mind.

Yea its $55 a year for expanded use antique plates so from april to November theres no restrictions. Dec to march its like normal antique plates: maintenance, club events, or shows only.

Antique plates are $30 for 3 yrs. Standard car and class b truck plates are $101 a yr...

How often were you driving and parking downtown? Hate to say it but sounds like the bacon brigade is correct...law is the law and you chose to abide by those rules when getting antique plates...i am still suprised though dont get me wrong! Id be more worried about insurance dropping you if they find out your driving it more often and since you got a written warning be prepared...

some places just dont need the cops. other places are dangerous. cops should be response only like fire departments.

With the wording quoted above, I can see why the copper said what he did. FWIW, With our system, we can drive the car for 45 days a year after filling in a log book to keep count of the days. That costs about $76 and double that for 90 days. There is no option to go more than 90 days. The car can be used for any purpose so long as it is not for commercial gain, ie, it is for private use. Most of the cost is to cover personal injury insurance.

Yeah I'm breaking the law and I know it but I drive my car on the weekend for maybe 6 months out of the year. It's kinda like the fireworks law here in Ohio. It's called the liars law. You have to sign a document when you buy fireworks in Ohio swearing you will take them out of state to set them off. Everyone signs the paperwork but no one actually does that.

If you only drive it on the weekends I personally wouldn't call it excessive but ohios wording of not for personal transportation is a massive grey area and im sure its up to the discretion of an officer. Now if every sat morning you had a cars n coffee sorta thing that would be a club activity and the officer would have no grounds (hehe coffee grounds...) to stand on. BUT if its just you and your car alone its technically transportation... Does ohio offer some kinda expanded use tag? What do regular plates cost? Unfortunately now that you've gotten a written warning that officer is going to be bird doggin you all over town...Time to carry around a few snyders, berts, macs, etc packing slips to say you just replaced this or that thing and need to test drive the car for maintenance purposes

What exactly do they mean by exhibition? Wiki says: "Exhibitions range from an extraordinarily large event such as a World's fair exposition to small one-artist solo shows or a display of just one item." - slap a displayed tool kit and a small bulletin board with repo owners manual, fuel ration cards, advertisements, etc outlying the cars history and you are a one man exhibition by definition. - gotta play the grey area of the law in your favor!

I get your frustration and my heart skips a beat every time I'm out driving my chevette around displaying 1980 Wisconsin plates and a cop gets behind me...Occasionally when planets align and my other 3 modern vehicles are out of commission i do have to drive it everywhere including work n back for a few days... Usually they turn off or smile and wave as they pass....

Got pulled over AGAIN!!!! Leaving town for the night. I saw them prowling for me. Then I see him turn around. Followed me till the city limits and pulled me over. Said "yeah I heard you were pulled over already and I've been wanting to talk to you". I just said "gotta drive home". He said be safe and walked away.
