1948 Mercury Hood Hinge Repair
Hi all,
has anyone had success in taking the wobble out of the hood hinge joint as I have marked on the pic. I know that these are available repros, but I would like to see if heating those rivets to red hot then hammering them on an anvil, would tighten the joint up. Any other repair ideas for the original hinge joints? I also contemplated drilling the rivets out and machining up a shoulder bolt to suit . Wouldn't look as good but may work too. Thanks for any ideas Dave |

Re: 1948 Mercury Hood Hinge Repair
Don't waste time trying to repair hood hinges. Any fit of the hood is magnified by wear of the joints making adjustments difficult or impossible. C&G has them for $79.95 a pair (800) 266-0470. I put them on my '47 convertible, and they solved all problems. Part number is 91A=16782/3.
