Bumper Grille Guard Rusty
The grille guard is a bit rusty and looks bad next to the nice chrome bumper and guards. Reaching to find a patch that will make the rust less noticeable. Not averse to stripping the rust and painting or whatever. Any good ideas making the rust less obvious? This '40 is not getting any plating or other expensive process. Function before form. Thanks: Fred A

Re: Bumper Grille Guard Rusty
Handy man's short-work fix: If pitted, clean as best you can - described by others above. Buy a can of chrome spray paint. Spray it on and wipe excess off the good chrome surrounding the pitting leaving the fresh paint in the depressions of the pits. This treatment won't necessarily hid the pitting but should slow down its advancement. Treatment should hold for some years depending on exposure to weather (moisture/water/rain).

Re: Bumper Grille Guard Rusty
You can have it powder coated as there is some powder coating that looks real close to chrome.

A mixture of white vinegar and salt and let it soak for a few days scrubbing it every day or so. You might me surprised at the result.

Re: Bumper Grille Guard Rusty
The only thing bad about powder coating something with pits is, they will still be there when coated.

Re: Bumper Grille Guard Rusty
Ding! Ding! Ding! That Evapo-Rust rang my bell as I have a tub full of it and it did little on my iron exhaust manifold. I also like the chrome or aluminum paint in the pits, light that they are. I've done the clean back side of '40 bumpers and loved it. If the results are miraculous, I'll report back. Thanks: Fred A
