1941 Woodie Station Wagon-New Project?

Is anybody reproducing the wood body parts or complete bodies for the '41 Station Wagons? I think they are very close to the '42 to '47 with some minor changes, one being in the door latch area. I know about this one because I bought a set of doors, years ago, and they turned out to be for a '42 instead of the '41.

I sold my restored '41 Woodie a couple of years ago, and miss it "a little". Last weekend I pulled my other '41 out of the barn. Now I need to decide if I want it as my next project or if I should sell it and move on to my '34 Three Window Coupe, in a barn since 1956.

I don't know how much of the work you do yourself but it took me a LONG time to finish my 40 woodie with another club member with a 40 who cut out all the wood for both cars and I did the mechanical and body/paint/varnish work on both cars, his and mine. Even with the division of labor, I don't think I would live long enough to do another woodie. Personally, I would not start another woodie restoration. Sell your project and buy a finished car if you really want another 41, prices are down on wagons.
After looking at the pictures, there is a lot of rust to repair before you are able to add wood to that floorpan. I had to fix rust on my buddy's car like you have where the rear fenders mount and if that is bad, there are probably many other places as well.

If you already have done a "41 Woodie, I would do the '34. It always takes much longer than you plan, especially if you do the work yourself. I am almost 72 and have reached the point on my '52 truck that I am ready to sell it and move on to a Model A as a new adventure. Going to have to be one needing a lot less major work than the 11 year truck project. My point being that time and aging slows down the process.
Maybe your young or can afford to have the major work done? If that's the case, do them both.
Reminds me of the Woodie I had that my Dad sold for $150 when I went off to Viet Nam.

No doubt in my mind you can buy a decent condition 2/3 '41 wagon for what it's gonna cost you to do that '41. Not to mention the time factor. You may be able to sell the '41 project and dump the $$ into your coupe. WIN/WIN all the way around! Trust me Time is a Thief..Bill

Are you saying that at 64 I will be slowing down sometime in the future? Dang, I have so many projects on my list..... Honestly I try to live every day up to my potential. I'm part way through my woodie project and I can't believe the extra time needed over a normal vehicle. I would do the '34. Fast, light , agile, nimble all come to mind. Either one will only be driven on sunny days, Right?

I'm only 80. Isn't that enough time to do both? I did the 1st one in 1975 to 1978. I don't think it was that bad. Maybe my memory is failing! Will post pics of my progress.

That's a big project, but better than my '42. If it came down to either that or the 3W coupe, depends which one you'd enjoy working on and driving more. The 3W should be a quicker project with less cash outlay unless it's really damn bad. The body wood is very expensive to buy.
As far as the wood, Kline's is in Pa and has a good reputation. The 42-48 parts are nearly all different than the 41 stuff. That includes the brackets, hinges, rear latches, doors, B, C, and D pillars, quarters, and more. In fact, the tailgate and most of the roof are the only things that are the same.

Roof is not the same either. 41 is around 2 inches longer according to Ron Heiden who is doing my 41!

I want to say thank you to all you woody guys for all the work you do to keep these things on the road. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a '38 that I found back in the 80's. Even then they were expensive.

I saw this car about 15 years ago and it was in better shape then. It’s sunk down in the dirt,and roof has now collapsed from snow. got an 8BA, but it looks like it would literally fall apart if moved.
I hate to say it, but it’s probably just good for parts.

One of the biggest issues with Woodies is the floor pan. Several people manufacture wood kits and the mechanicals are the same as cars but nobody reproduces the floors and rear wheel arches. The other thing that will kill you is trying to find all the small brackets and interior parts. BUT, Everyone needs to own a Woodie once in their life.

Ron is a great guy and does terrific work. He has done the fitting on my '51 and is the best in these parts (San Diego).
