Light Switch Spider removal
Is the removal tool the only way to do it? I was at Brattons today and could have bought one, but didn't think of it.

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
It helps, but if you have tough fingers you can depress the spider enough to get the key out.

Yes strong fingers, or a homemade tool like this. Jeff

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
I must have callused fingers or a weak spring but I didn't think it was too bad to do it with my bare hands. I think the trick was be rough and do it once or twice. After 5 min of pushing on that thing it does start to hurt.

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
I use the removal tool to depress the spring, then grab the clip with a pair of hemostats. Very easy.

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
When I lever the spider up, the rod goes with it and the clip is still trapped.
My sector housing broke where the eccentric is, so a new one will go in. |

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
As Tom once mentioned, put a board across under the steering wheel and over the light switch lever to hold the rod from pushing up..

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
as Tom has said put a yard stick through the steering wheel to hold the horn rod in. I have tied all kind of different tools on the spider. the vise gripes work the best for me.

Re: Light Switch Spider removal
Thanks to all! I use my needle nose vise grips a lot, don't know why I didn't think of it for this?
