Any museums near Disneyland?
I may be taking a trip with my family and some friends of ours in the near future to California and we are trying to plan other attractions to visit besides Disney. Do any of y'all know of a good automotive attraction I could visit or a museum of any kind? I'd like to visit if I can any historical sites or vendors showrooms or things of that sort.

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
CW Moss is interesting a parts supplier with some cars on display 402 W Chapman Ave Orange, CA. The Nethercutt Museum 15151 Bledsoe St. Sylmar, CA (across LA from where you will be) is a huge collection with a research library. It is free which makes it very nice. But not right next to Disneyland. But out that way is the Gene Autry Museum which is nice too for a family visit. Enjoy your stay.

While at CW Moss, enjoy looking around at downtown Orange, Calif. Neat style Model A era buildings thankfully the folks there stopped developers from trashing it!! You can still hear the echo of Ahooga horns if you listen closely

Echo of ahooga horns. I like it!
By the way, CW Moss is closed on Sunday and Monday. Not really auto related, but you might consider the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum in Los Angeles. Also the Getty Museum and the Getty Villa. Too bad the Peterson Car Museun is closed for renovation. Regards, Neil |

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
The Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo is always fun. http://www.automobiledrivingmuseum.org
Every Sunday they take visitors for a ride in "This Week's Rides". Small museum with a nice variety of cars that are actually driven. The Nethercutt Collection is a must see. http://www.nethercuttcollection.org How about the Space Shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center http://californiasciencecenter.org/e...ttle-endeavour Or how about something different and visit The Battleship IOWA in San Pedro http://www.pacificbattleship.com Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 07-07-2015 at 10:45 AM. |

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
Almost forgot, when your in Anaheim for Disneyland swing by Knott's Berry Farm for Mrs. Knott's Fried Chicken Dinner. You don't have to go into the park to go to the restaurant. https://www.knotts.com/california-ma...ner-restaurant
Have a great time while out here!! Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 07-07-2015 at 01:58 PM. |

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
If you do go into Knotts Berry Farm, be sure to look for their original 1920 Model T, that they owned when they set up their berry farm.

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
Thank you so much. These are exactly what I was looking for. Even the places like natural history and the science museum. I wonder if there's anything like a smithsonian museum close by. Y'all have given me a lot to google tonight. I also informed my wife I may have to rent my own small car when we get there because I know I'm going to want to make as many stops as possible.

Hope your visit is LONG... |

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
I'm starting to think I can make a whole vacation out of visiting these places. I can just see my wife and kids faces now, " Sorry kids, daddy's gonna take yall to car museums all week instead of seeing Mickey!!" Haha. No bueno for me. It prably be weeks before I could use my eyes & hands again and get back on this site.

And don't forget the Early Ford Store in San Dimas. It's like a museum...and just minutes away from the NHRA Museum.

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
The Lyon Air Museum is worth a visit - sprinkled in with the WWII era planes are all sorts of autos (when I was there two years ago, there were more planes and autos than what they have listed). Taking a look at their web page, it looks like they just opened a Duesenberg Exhibit last month.
Also very near the Lyon Air Museum is Crevier Classic Cars - I understand what they have in inventory constantly rotates, as they're in the business of selling cars - but they helpfully post their current inventory online, complete with pictures. Last edited by SDJason; 07-07-2015 at 08:44 PM. |

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
After seeing the Nethercutt collection, I think it is one of those places that everyone should make the effort to see. It is not just an incredible collection of cars, but hood ornaments, player pianos, nickleodeon machines, and automated orchestra machines. There is also a beautiful restored private Pullman railway car and Royal Hudson locomotive. Just a great place to spend a saturday and avoid the weekend crowds at the theme parks.

Re: Any museums near Disneyland?
North of LA in Oxnard is the Murphy Auto Museum and also the Mullin Automotive Museum. They are a few blocks apart. Check the open days for the Mullin. It's not open every day. You can get there by a nice drive up Pacific Coast Highway. PCH will take you from Santa Monica through Malibu and end up in Oxnard. Its a beautiful drive along the beach.
