Default 1931 Wide Bed Pickup - Rear Fenders

I am working on a late '31 Wide Bed Pickup and could really use a respectable pair of rear fenders. This truck has the indented cowl! QUESTIONS: Are these fenders different than other '31 Pickup fenders? If so, what is the difference? I am being told that there are no new repro fenders made for this truck, correct? What are my options? Fiberglass (Yauch)! USED????? Can anyone help me out?? Thanks, Don

Well good luck on finding decent ones or even bad ones. . That is a fender specific to that
Fiberglass is about it unless you do find them in steel

I have seen a pair cut in half length wise, a piece taken out and welded back together. It sure looked great and you couldn't tell! BUT what would the labor charges be for something like that? Just another option.

A sedan fender can be sliced and diced.
But as Cape says it’s about $1k plus a sacrificial fender; repop sedan fenders are no longer available

I had a '34 Coupe fender that had been done like that. Looked great on the outside but a little rough on the underneath. So What? This truck is being done as a driver but he is being VERY particular. Guess it will have to be his call. We did his 1931 Tudor Sedan as a driver.

About 20 years ago I had a real nice pair I had been saving.Somebody I knew wanted them, but he didn't want to step up and pay for them.He was a little shocked at what I sold them for, there was just no way he was going to spend that much on a pair of fenders. He had a nice truck with NO rear fenders.I did manage to convince him to buy glass ones to get by until he found a set of steel. He hated glass but he got to drive his truck, and he either got over the glass thing or never found steel ones. They are still on his truck today.

I’ve been at this a loooong time
If one is building one of the low production models when you find body-specific parts you better buy them. And I learned at Hershey and other swaps, if you find something don’t think your “coming back later”.....it won’t be there!
It may seem high priced but there are finite original parts and they are dwindling.
If one is paying to have a Model A restored they will be upside down in the car anyway
Imho

In the 70s I was restoring a late 31 pickup minus rear fenders. I gave up looking for a good pair of wide bed fenders and settled on using the early short bed. Not for show but fun to drive!

I'm pretty sure that's why my late '31 Bud cab pickup has a short bed.

Thanks to all for your willingness to help. My customer brought his fenders to my shop yesterday. The drivers side was much better than I expected. A small amount of work will make it very respectable. The passenger side was a different story. From the running board area back it was not too bad. The back 20% was really beat up, but all still there. Since we are both basically retired and time is more readily available than $$$ we decided to take on the project of straightening. WISH US LUCK!

About 20 years ago I did a 1946 Ford coupe for a customer, we worked on it together. It had been side-swiped on the drivers side and the front fender was FLAT. He started looking for a good or NOS but decided that $350.00 was too much money and we should straighten the original one. Since we were working together he got to see how much work it was. It came out perfect and he was HAPPY but said he wished he would have spent the $350! We do live and learn". Thanks again, Don
