Default what should be done when the engine is out?

Should I get a clutch plate with springs in it to replace the solid one I found that works? The motor mounts were cracked and holes were pushed around. Are repops available? I didnt find any. Should I just get a float a mount instead?

If you go to the clutch disk with springs make sure the are well captured so they don't pop loose. I like the original mounts. You can find good ones if you try.

I'm a believer in if it ain't broke don't fix it. As for the mounts, contact Berts in Denver.

The common fix is to weld any crack in motor mounts (Usually in the corners). It seems there are two kinds of mounts, those that are cracked and those that will crack. If you go to a welding/fabrication shop, the charge shouldn't be more than ten bucks to weld them.

I would stay with original motor mounts. Enjoy.

Engine removal is not needed to change out motor mounts, removed my mounts as a teenager to replace the rubbers. Now that the motor is out, it would be a good idea to check out the pressure plate, disk, bearings, etc!

Radiator need to be cleaned? Pilot bearing need to be replaced? Condition of the starter ring gear? Water pump rebuild? Is the front cross member of the frame cracked? These are all areas that commonly need attention. when the engine is out is the time to do them.
V out the cracks in the motor mounts and take them to a competent weldor. That's the cheapest and easiest way to repair.

I would do everything Lindy says, plus spruce up the engine bay and replace anything that's worn out.

Yea motor mounts are typically cracked. I was buying them for $1 each at swap meets. Thick steel and easy to weld. Along with everything else mentioned check your frame for sagging and straighten it now.

Don't forget the transmission. Now is the time to replace all bearings & worn shafts. Then carefully inspect all gears and replace as necessary. Nothing worse than rebuilding the engine and have a bearing go bad in the transmission months down the road then you get to remove the engine again. First time fun, second time a pain!!!!

There are front cross member cracks to be welded. I have a welder and can fix all the cracks. The water pump is getting a new impeller its missing the corners of the blades. I will clean the radiator. flush from the top? I need to clean and paint all the areas that have been exposed. The engine is out to get it bored and new pistons/rings. The pilot bearing is good but ill replace it as I can get to it now. The pressure plate and clutch disk look to be replacements the fly wheel has some cracking in the surface but its small. I will inspect the trans too.

yea going thru the trans internals isnt a hard deal. Nows the time to check the clutch shaft and pedal shaft for wear. While its out can inspect and repack the u joint as well.

Flush from the bottom is preferred.

Stop drill small holes at the ends of the cracks in the motor mounts and then weld them up.

Might as well begin a frame up restoration.

Check everything for condition, size, wear. It is all so the engine only comes out once. If the engine does come out a second time, that's when you add it to the list.
