Default upper plate with integral clamp. provenance?

Not come across an upper plate like this before. Can anyone shed light on its origin?

This is an early 28 plate. They are getting harder and harder to find. I only have three out of a lot of plates.

I have one of those that I ran for years, it was different and seemed to clamp the points better, probably my imagination. Now the real early 28s didn't have the points bolted in, they had a straight spring end and just slipped between pegs, it got changed because they were so easy to steal. Just squeeze them and they lifted right out.

What you have is actually the second generation of upper distributor plate which was introduced after January 1928 and used into late 1928 when it was replaced by the more familiar steel stamped plate. Of interest, the first generation upper distributor plate was also a forged plate with a wide arm but had a riveted ball. This was used from the beginning of production to January 1928.
