Mitchell overdrive with cable shifter for Model A Picture wanted
I like to install my Mitchell overdrive in the Model A using the cable shifter as in the later Fords
Could someone please post or send me some picture how they installed the push pull lever in there car. I asked this question before on the Old Board but that is not accessible any more?? Thanks. [email protected] Last edited by Joop; 10-02-2010 at 06:51 AM. |

Re: Mitchell overdrive with cable shifter for Model A
Do not install/use the cable shifter in your Ford period. I did and it is crap...Use the Floor shift with linkage to the Mitchell. You will be glad you did. This comes from experience. Mitchell will supply either the cable or shifter with linkage. Same price but the shifter/linkage is better awhole lot better.

Re: Mitchell overdrive with cable shifter for Model A
Joop: my Dad's 50 ford V8 w/overdrive had it cable actuated, You might be able to adapt something like that. I would think for or merc, probably 49-54 or so might work. Hope this helps.

Joop: Cable on 50 fordd was mounted under dash to left of steering column aabove emerg brake handle, I think. Long time ago, maybe somebody has a picture they could post? By the way, love your coupe.

Re: Mitchell overdrive with cable shifter for Model A Picture wanted
I would say 99% of the Model A Fords use the floorshift unit with linkrods to the Mitchell unit. The cable is no good just my 2 cents...
