Townsedan body style poll
I am just curious so I though I would start an unscientific poll. I just want to know how many 29-31 Briggs and Murry Townsedans are out there. Please vote which body style you have. I think I have all years and body styles covered.
Thanks, Mike

Re: Townsedan body style poll
Your poll does NOT have all the body styles! In '31 one of the three slant window fordors, the 160B was a "Town Sedan". The 160's were made by Briggs, Murray, and Ford to identical prints, all body parts interchangable. They were not specifically I.D.'d with a body builders tag, but minor fastener details may reveal who made the particular Slant Window 160x. My Town Sedan (160B) was made by Murray, I think. The 160A was a standard slant fordor and the 160C was a Deluxe blindback slant fordor. I believe, technically, only the 160B was called a "Town Sedan". The 160C was a "Deluxe fordor". I'm not sure why the 160C wasn't a "Blindback Town Sedan".

One way to tell Murray vs Briggs on the 160's is the shape of the encapsulated nuts on the gas tank. I cannot remember which for sure, but I think "D" shaped ones were used by Murray and Hex ones were used by Briggs. My 160-B was determined to be a Murray by the muslin material (stamped "Murray Boby Corp") under the original rotted upholstery. Jeff P. / MN |

we bought our first Town Sedan in Nov. it is an early slant window, flat firewall with a March 31 engine# matching the title, restored in 1990. it has a Briggs body tag on the firewall with the number 141-1516. what's the significance of the Briggs number, and did the tag not come on this car? curious as always, -C in J. |

Re: Townsedan body style poll
I would like to get a general date made for my 1929 155B Briggs. I can not find a date on the gas tank and the body number is in the 4000 to 5000 range. The frame is toast and the engine has been changed I am sure as it is Oct of 1929 date.

Re: Townsedan body style poll
I am owned by a 1931 slant window fordor seadan. Bernice is a Briggs body according to her nuts and bolts and the tag on the firewall. She ain't a town seadan.
