Default Is it just me or does this kind of stuff happen to everybody

So I remove my manifold on Saturday so I can take it to the machine shop first thing Monday. Machinist says it will be ready that afternoon so I show up Tuesday morning about 10 and manifold is not done and he says give him an hour. I had some other errands to run so I took care of them and returned about an hour and a half later.
As soon as I walked thru the door I could see something was wrong. "I dropped your manifold and broke it in two but I have another one on its way". He calls me later in the day and says it's ready so I went and picked it up and it looked great. This morning I put it back on and went to hook the muffler up and the clamp would not fit (new clamp and muffler but had it briefly on old manifold) I worked and worked without any luck so I called shop and asked if they would measure dia. on old manifold 2 3/4" the replacement they provided is 3", can't you just grind it they ask? I took the manifold off and returned to the shop and compared the manifolds side by side and the flanges are clearly different and also appears to be slightly different casting. So I'm not sure if maybe this is after market or what, but machine shop had all these half assed suggestions on how to make it work instead of saying let us find the correct manifold and make it right. I know he's losing money on the deal but it's not my fault he dropped it. I'm is business for myself and I would try do what ever it took to make it right. O.K. I'm done

Tell the shop to call Bert's for another original. It will cost them... but hey... it was their fault. Maybe they can get it wholesale. Phone: 303-293-3673

41plym-

If you don't want to post the name of the shop here, please PM me with their name. Since I am in the area I want to avoid this kind of trouble.

Thanks.

Ray

They still have a chance to make it right, I left the parts with them.
If they don't make it right I will let you know.
You don't by chance have a spare exhaust manifold just in case they don't?

The repro exhaust manifolds I've seen have been excellent in looks and fit.

Anyone know why the one he used would have a larger flange?

I bought an intake and exhaust manifold from Snyders a little over a year ago and have had no problems. I'm also running an Aries muffler.

YEP! 41Ply, It happens to ALL of us! Someday you will think back & LAFF about it! Ask me about when Gregg broke my NEW L/H threaded 2 piece crank pulley, broke my NEW tail light lens, cracked the lens in my NEW ammpumeter, YES, he did all those! Me, I "never" broke nuthing (HAH!!)
I "try" to make life's disappointments into "humor" & it's cheeper than a SHRINK!
What would Chief, or Purdy, or my "Son", Mitch say? Probably like, "Well, at least Gregg didn't break the windshield, them are REAL suspensive & a BITCH to replace"!! But Gregg makes REAL good COFFEE bILL w.

Actually, I do. They have been machined, painted, and ready to install. I used a set that had the Autolite heater on it, so this one is extra for me. The exhaust manifold has typical pitting in the front and drops in the back some. $10 if you can use it.

I tell my suppliers and the guys that work for me the same thing.

Everybody makes mistakes, hopefully only once, but it's what you do to fix'em that is the real test of craftsmanship.
