Air Maze New "position"
Hi Guy's Never did like the way the "Air Maze fiter" sat right next to the exhaust Pipe...I moved it to a horizontal "position" As you know the big wing nut at the end will hit the hood in the horizontal position when closed,,,What I did was to remove the set pin & cut the center off the wing nut so that "Wing's" come flush to the cleaner bottom cover Kept fitting till I could shut the hood without hitting...After it all fit ok,I drilled the wing nut for a new set-pin...I was thinking of Heli-coiling the set screw that hold's the filter tight...Then safety wire it secure I don't have a digital camera "Yet" so no picture..One of the guy's had a picture of my oil filter & I think it show's the air filter BTW this is on a 30, so I don't know it this will work on the earlier hood ?.. Re: Air Maze New "position"
Thanks for your "Sterling" comment's,,,it has really made my day this morning... I thought it was a good idea getting the air filter away from the hot exhaust pipe..But as I said I don't have a newer type camera yet so can't post a picture...& my "Post" as written was worthless... It never "fail's" to amaze me what People do/say...You just reinforced this,, Greg out West, |

Well, Greg, I don't think it's a dumb idea, the air it picks up might be a little cooler & maybe the fire danger might be less. I've been thinking about the newer "high" mounted filter, some suppliers are selling.---Bill W.

I wouldn't take offense, that is a common internet picture for requesting pictures, it dates back to the early days of these message boards, it's supposed to be lightly sarcastic and humorous. However if you do get access to a camera I would love to see pictures as well. I removed my Air Maze, it always seemed to fall off anyway.

Re: Air Maze New "position"
I still travel the dusty graveled roads and I would not leave home without my Air Maze filter in its proper place. In the days when our cars were new, the available fuel was just a little better than stove oil and the warm air from the exhaust manifold helped with the combustion of the fuels on our low compression engines. During the winter months, the warmed over air also helps prevent the carburetor from icing up.

Henry didn't put on an air cleaner. The carburetor is not designed to run one. Unless you drive on dirt, forget it.

Re: Air Maze New "position"
Just because HF didn't put one on does not mean you can't run one. There are two types, the one with the paper filter and the one with the wire mesh. The paper one does need the GVA to be set richer over the wire type. You don't need to drive on dirt roads to need one, there is a heck of a lot of dirt and grit on paved streets as well. Having pans in the engine compartment help keep the dirt out also.
