Default removing 39 PU steering column

I am removing the cab from my 39 pickup.Had to cut the bolts holding it to the frame. Now, how do I remove the steering column from the dash ? The bolts go downward and I can't see how to get to the heads of the two bolts. Perhaps removing the instruments would help. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Gracias Amigos !

Might have twist off head bolts in there.Removing the speedometer might make it easier to get to.

most have twist off heads to stop theft, drill a small hole in the center of the bolt and use an easy out to remove the bolt, the square tapered easy outs work the best, you drive them in the hole to lock them in place while you unscrew them

My '35's had one twist off, anti theft bolt (round head remains), and one hex head bolt holding the column to the dash. There was no way to drill and easy out that one bolt even with the speedometer removed. I used a pair of vise grip pliers to remove the round head bolt after applying penetrating oil and letting that soak in for a day.

There are heads on the bolts. How do you get to them ? You have to be a contortionist or shrink yourself.

Oh those special "break-off" screws on the lock assembly, fun

I plan on re-installing my steering column when I get my bolts from Roy Nacewicz. R-91-11 for a bolt kit version for re-attachment. D-629-A for the steering gear assembly to frame. Take-er-slow, Scott
