When I took the cab off my 37 pick up, the front bolts had the springs on top. The rear bolts had the springs underneath. I bought the entire cab bolt kit from Ray and he will also tell you what color the springs were when the truck was assembled. I almost done cutting and drilling the replacement wood out of some oak I had out in the shop. There were "farbic" spacers at each bolt, either between the front body or between the wood spacer and the frame.

I'm told the springs are topside.

Re on top or on bottom: can't give a definitive answer, but I believe Ford fitted them on the bottom. My 41 pickup was as it left the factory, and all 4 corner ones were on the bottom. You couldn't really fit the rearmost ones on top as they would be inside the cab.

It is good practice to fit the bolt from the top and the nut on the bottom. If the nut comes loose and falls off, at least the bolt stays in situ as a locator and only a nut is required to make the repair.

While no-one can be certain, I would guess that any that are fitted with the nut on top may have been done after it left the factory.
