Transmission for a multidisc clutch
I need to rebuild the transmission on a '28 multidisc A. Are all the parts in the A single/multi disc transmission the same? Or do I need something special for a multidisc model? Can a rebuilt MD transmission be used on a MD clucth setup? Thanks all.

Re: Transmission for a multidisc clutch
The transmission input shaft is different as it has a splined end with a big nut on it .The spline engages the multidisc clutch pack . If you are taking the clutch pack apart to change discs take GREAT CARE as the spring is under a lot of tension If you have the transmission assembly out of the car now is the time to fit the single disc setup . You will need a single disc bellhousing ,pedals ,pressure plate,disc etc etc . Also single disc input shaft . All these parts are readily available at swap meets hot rod cast offs normally cheap .If you want to stay original read all the good books and maybe get an expert in watch out for the killer spring !!!

Re: Transmission for a multidisc clutch
Tom Endy has some good articles on this topic here;
https://www.santaanitaas.org/tom-endys-tech-articles/ Take note that the baffles are different sizes and not interchangeable with the more common later style transmission. -Tim

Re: Transmission for a multidisc clutch
There are two different types of cases for the Multi Disc Clutch Trans..An early one and a later one.. They use Different shafts, and Bronze bushings. I have seen one early case that was changed over to the later style single plate clutch, but then you need to drill four holes to mount the front throw out collar on which has to be 100% in line or you will have other problems down the road..I would say use either one or the other complete set up..
