Default Valve Spring Compressor Tool

Does anyone have instructions on "How To Use" Bratton's part # 9280 "valve spring compressor tool"?

If you do, I would appreciate it if you would PM them to me.

Thanks,

Bill, go to Brattons site and pull up your spring compressor. To the right of the tool is a green download instruction button. Hit that button and it has the instructions you need.

Just move manifold bolt from one bolt hole to the next to pivot tool on. Once you get one it gets easier but still a PITA!

I have had this tool for about 35 years but I lost the hook. I made one out of a 1/4" bolt but I didn't know the length. Anyone know the length of the rod and the length of the hook portion? Thanks Jack

Hey Jack,
'lost the hook'...
Just use the 'special tool' as patented by Jim B, in his book..i.e.- bailing wire ! Hey, it works.

I bought one years ago and the hook bent to where it was useless to me. Maybe it is made stronger now.

I could never figure out how to use it and still have hands enough to get the keepers on. Gave up and got one of these:

I have two valve spring tools like Carl G pictured above, both USA made old time tools (Craftsman & New Britain) that old time mechanics had in their tool kits. No results from a recent ad on fordbarn selling these. Is modern better?

I just found the compressor the old mechanic had here. I didn't take a picture, but it's about 2' long with 2 different sized "C" ends on it. It has a movable clamp on the shaft with a small short chain (about 8" long) attached. Links are big enough to fit on the studs on the manifolds.
