Water pumps are kinda fun as a DIY bench project. Learning to work on your car is part of the enjoyment of the hobby. You couldn't start on an easier project, and then if you can't do it send it out.

I convert my own with not much trouble and it would be easier for you guys over there because you are still using the old imperial system. It's not as easy to buy bearings or seals for example in imperial sizes as metric here after we changed our system more than 50 years ago.

I agree, this is a good diy project. I've done a few over the years.
I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but; if a leakless pump starts to leak while out driving.
Can it be packed with packing rope as a repair, either temporary or long term? Jeff

Best place to purchase a rebuild kit?
what is generally included/required?

Personally, I'd prefer repairing/rebuilding myself....little more satisfaction.

Mine are leakless and I always do my own. For the first 20 years it was exactly as Ford built it. I installed a new shaft and rear bushing and a new square brass thrust washer. I used the lead packing rings with a lot of grease around them.

From now on I will do them exactly the same, except use the rear bushing with the double lip seal to better keep the grease and antifreeze separate, but either way they have been leakless for me.
