Default Shift Tower Gasket

In reinstalling my shift tower I noticed there was a paper gasket on the vertical surface with the recesses for the shift rail shafts.(see photo) A gasket for that area wasn’t provided with the kit from Mitchell and I don’t see that one is available from Bert’s. Is a gasket needed there?

No. No gasket is required --- looks like you installed the "Real Deal" oil seal.

Thank you. That’s what I suspected since the horizontal gasket shown in the photo seals the top of the transmission.
I installed new shift rail shafts and the plunger and spring kit from Mitchell. The real deal seal had already been installed.

I used the top piece of the transmission to bell housing gasket.
