Default Aluminum pulley for M90 blower.

Well while I have the distributor out waiting for charlieNY to check it out, on to the next issue. My blower pulley is damaged because some numb nuts didnt have it tight and wallowed out the keyway. Any ideas where to get something like this? I know it's a v belt on a blower but I'd rather not completely change the belt set up.

You'll probably need to have one custom made at a machine shop. Not a hard thing to do - but they'll need exact measurements on the shaft and keyway.

What is the pully diameter? And bore? Does it have to be aluminum ?

Or, [machine work again] simply bore it out, press in a sleeve, [ideally steel - more durable], scotch key it in place, bore and key it to suit...

Bore .640 pulley diameter 4inches. Nah doesn't have to be aluminum.

Yeah I do have a lathe, so I was thinking about that. I don't have an end mill though. Still may attempt this.

I've been calling around to a few machine shops without any luck yet.

That is an odd bore size .640 = 41/64. Is that the shaft size? If it is 5/8 ( .625) I can probably help. Worst case would be boring out the 5/8 to 41/64.

If it was mine, I'd make a steel blower drive flange - similar to a crankshaft blower pulley flange. The flange would have bolts to bolt on an aluminum pulley. This way you can change pulley sizes quite easily. The flange should have a centering ridge on it (like a crankshaft blower pulley).

Also, you might consider using a dual-belt lower pulley - if it will clear your cross-member. It is much better to have multiple belts than just one. If you're going to the trouble of coming up with a new pulley drive system, might as well make it better.

Definitely like this idea. Actually this makes the most sense. Definitely looking into this. Thanks so much. I agree this is a poor design.

I have about a 16th of an inch clearance with the crossmember unfortunately.

The last piece of the puzzle is what size is keeway and are you using an A belt or B belt?

Cant you cut another slot say at 180 degrees . If its not timing anything , Ive done this on a few shafts that were messed up .

Great suggestion, but unfortunately the entire hole got wallowed out.

I had exactly the same issue with my blown 8BA. The original one from B&M was not a tight fit on the crank and over time it destroyed the keyway on the pulley. I had a new one machined from aircraft grade aluminum that was a semi-pressed fit. Cost was $325.00..

I'm thinking about going this route. I'm not sure which pulley I can find that will work with it yet but I really like the idea of a flange that I can easily switch pulleys. I may still have to get a pulley machined anyhow though.

Can you cut off the old pulley and use it with the new adapter?

How about something like this? The sheaves and bushings come in many sizes.
You could get a smaller bushing and have it bored to your shaft size.

You can broach a key way in the sleeve with a press.

If that M90 pulley adapter fits your blower drive shaft, that is surely the way I'd go. For that price, isn't worth the time screwing around and making a one off.

Forgot to add, my pulley has bolt holes for a separate pulley. Wish I knew about the hub you show, would have saved me a few dollars!!
