Default Sun 504 Distributor Tester

Got this Sun 504 with some other parts. Don't know the history but it seems all there except for the back plate. I haven't tried to test it since I don't know anything about it and don't want to short anything out since the test leads are frayed. All knobs and switches function and the dial spins by hand. The hand crank adjustment to accommodate for different distributors moves up and down but the shafts it moves on have surface rust so they don't have a complete range of movement. The motor may or may not be original - its a GE motor connected to the drive unit by a belt. The vacuum pump is there but the hoses are cracked. See the photos for more details. Any ball park figure on what its worth is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did the Google thing. Came up with a wide range from units from for parts only to complete working units. But what people are asking and what its actually worth are 2 different things. Yes, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it but I'd like to have a realist figure and go from there.

There is a guy that restores those that I have been dealing with. He is nice and good to work with and has lots of parts to restore that model. If you google Sun Distributor Testers he will pop up.

Unfortunately, no, on the Ford distributor adapter. Found info about restoring them and parts but I'd just like to find someone who can use it. And yes, it would be a PITA to ship.

I sold an older but fully functional unit a few years ago for 650.00. I had the whole thing apart to clean and repair. Had the original manual and was a nice machine.

Thanks, mine is certainly not $650.00 nice. Don't think I'll attempt the clean and repair process. Sounds like a good rainy day project but I've already got a bunch already.

I sold a older one but in the same condition for $200. It may of been priced low but I wanted it to move.

Good to know. I'm thinking 150 bucks pick up only.

$150 would be a bargain you won't have any trouble selling it. I two of them. (ones a backup just incase) I use it all the time.

Hopefully someone wants it but shipping will be an issue. If someone doesn't want it I may get a manual, replace the wiring and vacuum lines and see if I can get it to work. But then there is the issue of where to put it. Counter space is at a premium as it is. And if I spent the big bucks for the bottom cabinet I would still wouldn't have any floor space for it to live.

And then there is the elusive ford adapter which I have seen go for stupid money on eBay. It’s not something you’ll use often but when your distributor needs work it can’t be beat.

Last one I saw on Ebay was $350.00 I've got a Chevy distributor in my 8ba so the adapter isn't an issue but one never knows down the road.

For 200.00 I got a master distributor tester and a master motor tester both working but in need of wiring and a good cleaning. AND it came with the ford adapter. But that was many years ago before there was garage art for your man cave.

Thanks for all the info but I sold it to a LSR salt flats guy in San Diego. It would have been nice if I could have gotten it to work but that was a big if and even if I did there is really no room in the shop for it. Sounds like it went to a good home.
