Tough Old Ford
This was sent to me by a friend, he know not from where it came.
I was amused by this picture taken in 1956 and the inscription on the back. Hope ya’all find this interesting too.......

And here's us thinking we have done well with what we tow behind our A.

Re: Tough Old Ford
Most probably using a home made tow hitch.

Re: Tough Old Ford
It has a flat head V-8 you can see the left head water pipe and carburetor if you blow up the picture.

Re: Tough Old Ford
Doesn’t matter what it has, it’s still a tough old Ford pulling that humongous trailer!

Re: Tough Old Ford
I have no doubt the whole works can take off and go down the road, but stopping that train using Model A brakes even in good condition from a rolling speed of 50 mph is a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: Tough Old Ford
He possibly had a hitch that utilized 2 small wheels that supported the load, and took away most of any tendency to sway, so his 'A' only had to do the pulling. That long of a trailer surely had electric brakes on all 4 wheels.

Re: Tough Old Ford
^^^^ Agreed, very possible an El Dorado so not a 1956 photo. Impressive towing that with an A coupe though no matter what the year.

Re: Tough Old Ford
I am disappointed that I can no longer find an amazing photo I once had, of Model AA Ford logging trucks that used to tow huge logs out of the native bush in the central North Island of New Zealand. The photo showed totara or matai logs about 5 feet thick and 20 feet long behind the trucks. The gravel roads were narrow, winding and steep, so they must have had special low range gears. Outwardly there was nothing to indicate they were anything other than standard AA trucks. I have looked high and low for that photo without success and wonder if any other NZ Barners have ever come across it. It was taken around Te Kuiti I think.

The cynic in me just arrived. Are we sure that photos wasn't a setup?
