Default Need help with '38 WOODIE Window Regulator P/N

I've got a '38 woodie and I'm on a hunt for a passenger-side window regulator. When I originally built the car in the late '90's I used a Brazillian repop (after much fiddling and a little machine work). That regulator has failed and I'm looking for a Henry version to replace it.

I need a part number...

I've come across a couple of sources and their prices are all over the map. The part number they're using is 78-702700. I'm afraid this may be for a standard passenger car. The woodie uses the open car cowl.

Can anyone let me know what P/N I'm looking for? Thanks.

I know for my 40, all the wagon only part #s start with 79 as body was type 790. It might be that in 38 wagons were still listed with the commercial bodies. As you guessed a number starting with 702 is for a regular passenger car, maybe a tudor. I don't have a 38 body book which would tell. Another 38 wagon owner will probably chime in.

I do know that for my 40, a 36 4 door rear winder is fairly close to the 40 front door and could be modified.

What part do you need? There is a company called "This Ole' Coupe", www.thisolecoupe.com they might be able to make the gears for you. I believe I saw them at Hershey and they had sample gears. If it's the arms, they can be welded. Although if it's a Brazilian junk reproduction you may need the whole regulator. Finding a regulator for a '38 Woodie will be tough. There is someone advertising in the January issue of the V-8 Times also looking for a '38 regulator.

81A-790 RH used 48-792700 so do the 35-38 wagons 48-792701 is the LH

There is a very similar regulator 48-724400-A with what appears as different with bends in the arms. gears are most likely the same

Terry,OH demonstrates the genius of Ford part numbers. Noting that the 38 wagon uses a 35 wagon number part tells you they were unchanged for the wagons from 35 to at least 38.
I recently talked to a Ford dealer parts man who said they are changing to a new system. The old system would probably be useless to the new cars anyway.

Ford was known for using stock from other vehicles on the Station Wagon. If it fit, they just pulled the print and started making them. I'm not familiar with '34 Roadster interior door handles, but the book, Famous Ford Woodies, claims that '38 Station Wagon, rear door handles are the same as '34 Roadster. Old Henry was still around in '38 and he was known to be very thrifty.

My Hardware and Trim book show a different handle used on the Wagons than the 1934 Roadster, though both mount with a center screw so it is possible the roadster handle ended up on at least one wagon.

The 1933-34 roadster inside handle was used a long time, 1929-31 roadster, fordor phaeton, 1930-31 roadster pickup, 1933-34 phaeton, and 1928-56 panel truck rear doors.

I know this is a long shot, but looking thru an old Bob Drake catalog he lists several window regulators. You might get close and match one up, or even mix and match to make a good one.

In searching I've found that the 78-70200 P/N is for a passenger car -- I'm thinking the Terry,OH number may be more accurate. After the Roadster Show I'll pull the door apart and take pics. Thanks.
