Thumbs up '36 ford spare tire lock

I'm sure there's someone out there that can pick the lock on a Ford spare tire lock. I can fit a key in and the lock moves in and out with a feel of spring tension. Brought one to a lock smith but he looked at me as if I was from another planet. Any help would be appreciated............

Is the key original to the lock? If so and it has stopped working the tumblers may have worn and need replacing. If the key is not original at least you have the means to extract the cylinder.

Not sure about the '36' but they may be same as '38' in the sense of; look for a small hole near the barrel of the lock, if there is a hole insert a piece of wire and depress a little plunger at the bottom of the hole. With your key in the lock turn the key sideways as you withdraw the key the cylinder will come with it.

The spare tire lock has a set screw on the side that is removed to pull the lock cylinder. The trunk handle has the small hole and the lock is removed by turning the key 1/4 turn and insert the wire as has been described.
