170B Wood Replacement
Is there any one that has replaced the wood in a 170B whether buying the wood or making it yourself? I would sure like to communicate with you about any help you might be able to give me.

Re: 170B Wood Replacement
Brent Terry has posted a picture of four door body in wood skeleton, presumably from his shop. You might check his website for the picture. I suspect the lumber in the Blindback and Three window sedans was the same.

You will find several threads on this subject of late. You know this but don't throw anything away if you take your car apart. A belt sander and wood tools are in order. There are four or five Ford Barner's doing the same with their sedans. I'm happy to help in any way. Good Luck. Good luck. |

Re: 170B Wood Replacement
Hi,
We have replaced the wood in a 1930 Briggs Fordor and made all the wood pieces ourselves. See pictures on www.fordmodela.com. It is a major undertaking! Please ask any questions. We would be happy to be of any assistence. Best Regards, Michael

Re: 170B Wood Replacement
Thanks to Skibb, MichaelSchwarzer and Terry,N.J. for the responses on this site and the PM's I have received.
This sure looks like a very long process and very tedious job. I would think I can make the wood but from what I gather if I bought it I still would have problems. I would think I'm looking at 10 to 12 months to do the wood. Again thanks to all for your comments. |

Re: 170B Wood Replacement
The hardest part is getting good dimensions to work with. It shouldn't take a year if you have the basic tools. For measuurements, a good tape, a 2" metal scale, an adjustable square, an Angle gauge. for cutting, a table saw, a band saw and or jig saw, a planer either a hand planer or a table/bench planer. And a drill press. There is a temptation to treat wood parts with less attention or care because it's "just wood". Someone posted a print, ( I think ) that gave the tolerances on both sizes and locations at ten thousandths , .010. Which was surprising.
