Here's what I use:
Stock distributor w/modern style cap and custom MSD wires.
Pertronix ignitor (acting only as trigger for the MSD).
Points plate locked out a 28 deg total advance.
The MSD does the rest. If I want to try a different curve I simply plug in the laptop and change the curve.
Since this is such a low compression engine I'm running an .080 plug gap and have run extremely rich/lean without a misfire.
The attached curve may or may not be the one I finally settled on, I don't remember, but it's similar.
