That's what will occur due to use of the A axle zerk. Just disable it, then no worry of doing wrong in that area !
well, I took the time to pull, clean, inspect and repack all the wheel bearings. they were in pretty good shape but the grease was old and 'dry and all of the bearings were too loose.
it was quite obvious that they had not been greased in a long time.

it only took an hour and a half to repack all four so the two zerk fittings on the rear have joined the steering box zerk fitting in that they have been rendered inoperative. ( I TIG the hole closed from the backside of the zerk so they look like zerks but are really just plugs that can't pass grease if I forget and grease them. )

I know this thread had been going on now for awhile but I have another basic question.

When you do remove the hub and grease the wheel bearings, should a person remove the bearing from the hub to grease it? Or can a person just smear a bunch of grease on the bearing in the hub and not remove it, the clip and seal? I know if it looks like a bunch of dirty old grease is on the bearing, a person should remove it and clean. But if it looks "fresh" can you just put grease on the bearing?

If I started with Mystik JT-6 High Temp grease and it still looked clean I'd probably just add to it. If it's been 10 years or 20,000 miles, then I'd probably remove the bearing and give it a good cleaning and inspection, then repack it.

Thanks Tom. I kind of assumed about the same thing. I think I need to take a look at my coupe's rear bearings because I can hear a bit of grinding somewhere at a low speed. I did grease the fronts a few miles ago and they looked great. Guess it could be a brake rub doing the noise also. But right now, it is to darn cold to get out there and do anything.

Tom, is the Mystic JT-6 grease good for the front wheel bearings also?

Thanks

Yes, it's a very sticky grease and I use it for everything.
My mailbox door had a little rust and was sticking, so I put a little grease on the lip. The next day the mailman stopped but didn't leave any mail. The following day I was there to meet him and he looked worried and asked what that stringy stuff was on my mailbox.
