Re: Model T question from a Model A'er
Yes, ther rear transmission bearing has babbit. There is a needle bearing upgrade made today that some owners use. The camshaft bearings are also babbit. Bob

Yes. The connecting rods are babbited and if you have an early T there are babbit thrust washers in the rear axle.

This is all assuming that the rear end(s) in question has the original from the factory thrust washers. Last edited by DSW3; 05-10-2010 at 06:43 PM. |

Is there upgraded inserts for the babbit other than the rods and mains?

Re: Model T question from a Model A'er
No insert bearings for a T. The iron mains and steel rods are tinned, then babbitt poured with fixtures to resurface the bearings.
The T only has 1.248" journals The babbitt lining would be too thin if inserts were used. |

Re: Model T question from a Model A'er
You have to use the babbitt for the rods and mains, no inserts will work. The cam bearing same thing. As for the rear end you have to take the babbitt out or risk having happen what is mentioned above. The (fouth main) or the ball cap bearing at the tail of the transmission can either have a new style or you cna use the babbitt. They make a bronze bussing for the starter which is much better then the babbitt.
