I have not seen Betsy in person, but remember that show cars of that era were different.

Before the Judging Standards specified that a Model A should look like it just rolled off the assembly line, they tended to be over-restored.

We had a club member who had a black coupe that had restoration work performed by George Webster.

George Webster was a perfectionist, and everything he worked on had a mirror finish. There were no parting lines and everything was mirror smooth and high gloss. If you looked at the side of the cylinder block, you could see your reflection.

Over-restored Model A's lost a lot of value due to the Judging Standards and that may be why MAFFI is looking for a new owner.

I've seen that in the Shelby world. Cars for the 80s to early 2000s were finished with clear coat and polished so you could yourself clearly in the reflection. Today those $25,000 paint jobs are being redone in single stage paint with the "proper" amount of orange peel. BTW that new paint job is another $25,000 at a knowledgeable Mustang restoration shop.

See "ModelA29" answer. The car has been donated to MAFFI specifically to be used as a fundraiser for the museum. That is what the widow wants. Whoever wins the car becomes part of the car's story. Does the car get parked? Does it get driven? Does it get freshened up? Does it get worn out? The next chapter of the story will tell.

I was just thinking about that car earlier this week what a coincidence! I still have my fathers old restorer magazines with it in them and remember them well. Really nice to see the video of it, it is in better shape than I would expect it to be after nearly 70 years.
