Default Centerforce clutch

Getting ready to build another 8BA for a 50 F1. Block is at the machine shop and I am getting together all the parts for assembly. I am using the stock 3 speed column shift. My flywheel is in ok shape, will need refacing, but it’s not the best looking piece. I was looking at new flywheels and noticed Centerforce makes a steel flywheel and clutch pressure plate kit. I need to call them to see if that setup will fit a stock setup and stock transmission.

Anyone have a Centerforce clutch setup, and if so what do you think about it. It’s quiet an investment but if it works well I am game.

I checked pretty good and couldn’t find a 1 3/8 ten spline 10” kit on their site. I will call them but leaning toward using my original parts. As long as they balance out and machinist gives them a thumbs up I will use those. They don’t have to be pretty, just work good!

Are you trying to upgrade to the diaphragm PP, or stay with the Long, normal style ?

I would like to upgrade while I have the engine on the stand. I know how hard it is to do clutch work under the truck. But this is a stock transmission so I may not be able to upgrade.

I run Centerforce clutch setups in two of my High HP cars. They are fantastic.

The harder you run them, the more force they make holding the disc tight to the flywheel.

Maybe a little over-kill for your needs on a stock flathead setup...Your call, I guess.

I checked that part Ross and it fits a 1 1/16 input shaft. The shaft in my 3speed is 1 3/8.

I run a Weber aluminum flywheel with a Centerforce clutch and diaphragm pressure plate. Absolutely love it and will not be going back to a traditional style clutch. It's behind a full house flathead and has worked flawlessly. As it breaks in, it is getting easier to push in which was pretty easy as new. Highly recommend it.

One thing I did was remove the counter weight "ring" that slides up and down on the fingers. A buddy did not do this and they caught on the throw out bearing and jammed the clutch up. I really don't think it's needs on a flathead.

Call them. Their on-line catalog is hard to follow. Their techs are knowledgeable and get you what you need.

I wouldn't run anything else. I bought the complete kit. Flywheel, diaphragm PP and the duel friction disk. After all the problems here with rebuilds, and offshore junk it's nice to do business with an American supplier. I believe they are located north of Prescott, Arizona.
Their tech line is fantastic.

Called and talked to Centerforce. They only show the 1 3/8 10 spline up to 48 for some reason.

Pressure plate is CF365222
Disc is 381870
Flywheel is 700340

Rep said stock throw out bearing should work. All parts meant for stock application. I think I am going to try it.

I'm kinda slow with computers but I went to their website and could find nothing for a FH Motor. What am I missing?

It HAS been 25 years for them to work out the bugs, but back then I put one in my landcruiser wagon and after a year or so, a few of the square sliders jumped the track and jambed the clutch up. I installed per directions and yes, I kept the ring in, and no, there were no off road shenanigans. I decided too many moving partrs and went back to stock. Just sayin'...

I mentioned this above. Their website stinks while trying to find flathead parts, but they do have them. I'd suggest calling their tech line. They are excellent.

This is exactly why I took the weights off. I don't know the size of the Toyota throw out bearing, but being a FH's is so large, I'd figured better safe than sorry.

Plus, a buddy had the same thing happen on his race flathead, so I took them off upon installation.

I am going to call them back tomorrow. I think the correct flywheel is 700360, the Centerforce website says that is correct for the 8BA. Afraid the one mentioned above is for an early v8 and not fit. I need to make sure that pressure plate above will bolt up to it.

The 700360 is the correct 8BA flywheel, and is what I'm using in my '32. Go to their website to learn all about their products.

Not to confuse the issue, but RAM clutches (a US-made company) also offers these types of clutch set ups. They offer both steel and aluminum flywheels. Here is a link to their 8BA steel flywheel

My preference for a drive train imprudent would be the T-170 3 speed with OD open drive shaft and a stock 91/2 clutch, 3.70/4.10 rear axle. This modern trans was used in the 80's in the F-150, and adapts quit easy to the 8BA steel bell housing. Shift lever comes out of the floor about 2" behind the stock unit. Have one in my truck and it's a joy to drive.
