Default Back from a 9 day tour of New Mexico and Colorado

Drove from Texas to Colorado and New Mexico, old school in my 1951 Ford on the Second National driving Tour, put on by the Albuquerque Tumbleweed RG. Nine days of fun and beautiful scenery with all the fall colors. Highlight of the trip was driving our old Fords over Wolf Creel Pass. Elevation of about 10500. Had a great Narrow Gage Train ride at Chama, NM and Driving trips to Taos, Santa Fe and Los Alamos where we toured the museum on the development of the first Atomic bomb.

I lived in Taos for 35 years before coming to the west coast and still love that country. My 49 Tudor, which i drove to Cali 4 years ago, came from Raton. I've driven those roads a ton and this is my favorite time of the year. Great to see your pics, made me miss it. Glad you had a good trip, even with the snow! Thanks for sharing, Johnny

Riding that train is an experience every gearhead has to experience! There's more mechanical bits on that engine than you can comprehend, the sounds of it chugging up the mountain is just spine-tingling. Beautiful country too! The sound of the whistle echoing off the high mountain valleys can't be described.

I rode it about 3 years ago, and one of the NM clubs was up for the ride, too.

More pictures of our tour. First stop was at the Big Texan Motel and Steakhouse on RT 66 in Amarillo, TX. Home of the 72oz steak, then to Tucumcari, NM and the Blue Swallow Motel on old RT 66. Later on in the mountains, My Hula girl got a little cold, so I had to give her my sweater. At los Alamos, replicas of the two bombs dropped on Japan. Fatman and Little Boy.

Touring in these old cars is much more fun than sitting in the hot sun at a car show, trying to win a $10 trophy.

Beautiful scenery and cars! I saw that 4 letter word on your back windows??? ( snow ) Ugh, it will be up our way soon. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Maybe some day I will be able to do that.
