Default 59AB into a 36

If you are going to put a 59AB engine in a 36, here is the hose combo that fits. Upper: Gates 21253
Lower: Gates 20151

If you are going to run an alternator, here is the belt to use with the fan mounted alternator: NAPA 22545

The 46-48 fan will not work because of the radiator tilt.
Use a 3 wire alternator because of the pulley size to mount the fan. It starts charging as soon as you come off idle.

This combination worked for me. Ed

??? A 3-wire should charge at idle even with a big pulley, no revving should be necessary.

Another item to consider is the crankshaft pulley to use when putting the 59AB in an earlier car with generator or alternator mounted fan. You don't need or don't have room foor double original 59AB pulley. The ideal one to find and use is original Ford part # 81C-6312-A one year only used on 1939 Ford standard. It would be the same looking early pulley but with i.d to fit crankshafts after 1939. Next choice would be 39-40 Ford and cutoff the fan mount part. Lots of people get stumped when they try to put a 32-38 crank pulley on a later crank.

Ed, I have a similar set up, but I am not crazy about the speed of the fan because of the small pulley size. Sounds like a blower at speed. What size pulley are you using. Thanks, Paul

Paul, I am using a pulley from Speedway for the fan mount. No issues with the pulley.

Ed, Have you had your radiator in place yet to check the clearance. I don't have that much room on my 35. That looks like a great set up if it all can be put together without issues. Looks nice, Paul

Paul, that is the reason to use the shorter belt and the later intake. It fits nicely under the radiator with no issues. Ed

That looks really nice, plenty of room. My 53 merc engine must be a little longer. I don't have that much room. Thanks, Paul

The three-wire ALT (i.e. Delco 10 SI) should charge at idle if you connect the sensor wire to the seloniod terminal, instead of the output post on the ALT body. I changed mine and now at 500 rpm idle, with no items turned on, it charges at abt 3 to 5 amps pending the state of the battery, and at idle it will stay there (or higher) if I i.e. turn on the headlights.
