Re: Help ID this Rear End Please
I was going to say 40-41 . 39 has got wide 5 bolt so it could be . Im sure someone with more knowledge will chime in . If you can post pics of the spindle back , round or squared , and the drums , if it has any will help .

Must agree with "Andy" ......the two assemblies LIKELY came out of a '39, if not assembled from parts. But here is a breakdown of the individual pieces that WILL interchange easily. Drums are 1937-'39. '36 FRONTS would not fit that spindle. I-beam ....'37-'41. Wishbone ....'37-'40. Spindle ....'37-'40. (Drag link fitting from bottom indicates NOT '41) Backing plates ....'39-'41. Rear end ....Could be '37-'40. Drilled radius rods (for clamps) indicate '39-'40. Rear radius rods/torque tube ....'37-'40 (as pictured) |

Re: Help ID this Rear End Please
Those front & rear assemblies could have been previously used under a '36 1/2 ton pickup, since they will bolt right in place, but they are most likely both originally from a '39 passenger car or light commercial vehicle.
It would be interesting to see what gear ratio is in the rear.

As noted up in post #6, '36 drum won't fit the ROUND '37-'40 spindles....the LONG snout. '36 FRONT drum (left) is a "ONE-year-only". '36 REAR end radius rods (just like YOUR '35s) BOLT-ON to flanges welded to the axle housings...'35-'36-ONLY. |

Re: Help ID this Rear End Please
Coopman, I think you misunderstood or misinterpreted what I said in my post #8. Going back to the original post, Pre1898 said the guy who gave him those assemblies, (his friend), "thought" they may have been '36 1/2 ton pickup.
What I said was those assemblies could have been "used" under a '36 pickup, ....meaning someone could have assembled the complete '39 front end and rear end "assemblies" under a '36 pu, because they will fit and bolt right up, and would be a quick way to get hydraulic brakes. I realize that '36 front drums won't work on '37-'40 spindles, and '35-'36 rear wishbones are different from '37-'40 rear wishbones, and bolt to rear differently.
