Default 1935 1936 1937 1938 Cabriolet top iron latch

I am working on making the 1937 cabriolet top iron latch. I received a request from a person with a 1935 cabriolet which has a similar latch. The parts books I have are sketchy and confusing as to what was used.

Questions...
1935 handle should be chrome? 1936-38 painted? When did the bump that is 2/3rds down the handle appear? Are the two versions interchangeable? Are there more versions?

Photos are of the 1935, the 1937, and my work in progress 3D CAD model.

Ford Hardware book for 1938 list the 1937 roadster top slant iron locking handle as 78-714832. It has the bump. The handles on my original 35 Cabriolet top do not have the bump. I think you have the finish correct. It seems Ford did not offer the handle as a replacement part, there is no listings in the hardware books for the Cabriolets handles. Don Rogers may be able to shed more light. I am aware this part is often needed.

Neither the '35 nor '36 handles have the bump. The '35 handle is chrome plated; the '36 handle is painted. Don Sommer at American Arrow Corporation reproduced these handles in stainless steel.

Hello All

I finished my first run of the 1932-36 and 1937-38 top latches. A whopping 8 each. Yes the roller actually rolls.

Karl
How are you doing with the metal piece that goes across the bottom of the Front Bow on a 36 Cabriolet?

If Karl hasn’t made the tin header plate, it’s available from oak bows in Pensylvania. I bought mine from there. Pm me if you want their contact information. Dan
