Mine takes 4 to 5 amps. If you are using a battery charger only rated 4 or 5 amps it might take more to get the motor spinning, but while spinning it draws 4 to 5 amps when it's adjusted correctly.

Mine shows about 10 amps and mine is a Stewart Warner.

Make sure neither field is grounded. I worked on a horn once where the motor spun OK, but one field was shorted. Just touch the ohm meter leads to one horn terminal and one to the horn mount or horn motor frame. You should get no meter movement.
I'll retest a horn later today to see what it draws. |

I just measured my Stewart Warner and got 6 amps. I'll try to remember to measure my Sparton tomorrow.
