Mercury 50-51 Water pump dismantle sequence.

Have a coupe of 51 Merc Water Pumps for rebuilding.
These have the circlip just behind the impeller.
Dismantle sequence to first press off pulley by supporting pump body with room for impeller to move with shaft?
Have one set up in small 6T home press but no movement!!
To apply some heat to pulley maybe. Dont want to break anything at this stage.
Am I on the right track with sequence etc?

As 19Fordy posted,the shaft and pulley press out the front after removing the snap ring. Some heat on the impeller may help if trying to save it. After it's out I have better results pressing the shaft out of the pulley by using a piece of pipe with an inside diameter that fits over the bearing and supports the pulley closer to center than the wood blocks do. Heat can definitely help on a rusty one.

Thanks very much. It would appear I was doing it incorrect." Arse about face" as we say down under.
The pictures certainly help.As want to ensure nothing is broken in the process.
Will use pipe support as suggested.

Be careful with the pulleys. They break really easy without warning.

So thanks to the supplied info I managed to get 2 pumps apart.
One was stubborn- Pump impeller broke so cut and split to remove.
The other managed to break piece off impeller trying to remove shaft.
Now have th screwed rod supports and other bits for this job.
Many thanks once again for advice. The small bench type press, 6T that I have is a good asset.
