Default Banjo Gear oil Question.

I would appreciate it if a Fordbarner would give an explanation of what the little passageway on the end of the torque tube is for and how it functions.
I think it's related to rear gear oil flow.

You can see the upside down "U" Shaped passageway in the upper right of center in the photo.
