New Guy Saying Hello
New guy here building a 52 F3. Pretty much stock from original owner's daughter after he passed away. Chap52 suggested I join this forum, especially for all the expert Flathead knowledge of the members.
I'll be asking PLENTY of questions when I get ready for rebuild. For now my plan is to get it road worthy, all my mods done and everything fitting and working properly. Then the plan is to tear it down for body and paint. This way I can drive it and better decide on mods. I can also afford to do it this way. Many projects stall out and often get abandoned when it gets torn completely down. Driving it will keep me motivated. So far I have the engine cleaned up, flushed out and running pretty well. Swapped out the T9 for a T98 and swapped the 4.86 Timken out with a 3.73 Dana 60. I have a stock type wire harness on hand I need to put in so I don't burn the truck down. I'm working on the door latches, window regulators and vent windows at this time. Driver side almost done. Also buying parts I will need down the road. Just found a pair of EAB heads and I'm hoping to find an 8CM cam. Not sure about exhaust. Thinking the left side police manifold re pop and duals. I have most of what I need for a 12 volt conversion. The 6 volt is doing fine but, I want A/C down the road. Stock style build. A/C will be only add on. Not even a stereo. Will be driven a lot and used like a truck. Bought a 48 F2 mainly to get the 8 ft Express Bed and running boards. Mine originally a non Ford Script stake bed. Also got the rear shocks and mounts and the 16" innie wheels and hub caps. 17" widow makers went on the F2. Think that covers it. Looking forward to some engine build advice for this heavy street driven sucker. Scott |

Here's the F3 stake bed when I got it home and pics of my 48 F2 "Bed Donor". The stake bed and shorty running boards are going on the F2 so I can sell it complete. Hopefully.

Welcome to the Barn... I would seriously think about keeping the F-2 all together. Very nice condition to tear apart. The bed, fenders and tailgate are the best i have seen in a while. JMO Ken

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
Ken, it IS a super straight and rust free truck. I looked for months to find a decent bed. Went all the way to Oklahoma to look at a bunch of so called excellent beds only to find rust priced as gold. I tried to buy just the parts I wanted but, it was all or nothing for the seller. It was in Tucson and he delivered it.
This would have been too nice as a parts truck but, it has a hack job 1955 Olds Rocket engine swap. Other than that it is NICE. Rust belt guys would kill for this. Perfect candidate for a resto-mod or body swap if someone has a good original power train. I am definitely going to try to sell complete. Gotta get some things fixed up a bit and I may try to get the engine running. Allegedly it was running when parked but, that was 1971. The engine turns, the plugs looked good, it holds water without leaking, and the oil is not very dirty. It for sure has been covered since 1971. Trans still has red fluid too. If I get no takers when I get ready to sell, I'll have to try to part it or trade it or something. Gotta get it out of my yard. |

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
Sure is a nice bed. I bought a decent f3 for the engine which will provide motivation for my 52 M-H. Had people tell me to leave it as is. In the end a fellow has to do what you have to do.

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
We can't save them all 52Henry. You got your engine and you can supply parts to other F3 builders. The PO wasn't able to sell that 48 except to a guy like me needing parts.
I can't afford to build two so hopefully it will live on in other trucks if it doesn't sell complete. Scott |

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
I still think you need to keep the flat bed and build both trucks. You can put a bow on one and tell the wife that one is for her. Besides what else have you got to do?

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes. A lot of knowledge here and friendly people that don't bite your head off for "dumb" or already been answered questions.
Richard, if I stick a bow on that 48 and TRY to give it to my wife..........I will end up with that bow tied around my neck to a Timken axle and thrown in the deep end of the pool. Scott |

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
Welcome! I'm pretty new here, but not new to old one ton fords. I have a life long fascination with ford one ton pickups, but I have some of the other versions too. Like others said, I would go for both trucks, and then find a couple of parts trucks to complete them both. You will find lots of info here and I for one will be watching your build with great enthusiasm.

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
I'll add my welcome to their barn. As the song goes, there's something about a pickup man.

Re: New Guy Saying Hello
I'm definitely a pickup man. I've never actually owned a car. Except for a 66 Mustang I repo'd from my at the time psycho son. Then my daughter totaled it.
My dream car would be a 32 or 33 Ford Coupe. Not in my budget unfortunately. |
