Unhappy Broken piston ring

Broken piston ringI was in the process of reinstalling the rings on my 8BA I’m rebuilding and on the LAST piston, broke the lower (below the wrist pin) oil ring. This a standard bore engine. (Don’t ask, it’s a long, long, tortured story and it always ends the same way.)

By chance does anyone have a spare standard bore, lower oil ring hanging around that I could purchase? It’s worth a fair piece to me right now! I would really prefer not to have to buy a complete set just to get the one ring.

I promise not to break it!

You dont have to buy a whole set, just contact a ring maker to supply you one. When I changed from cast oil rings (which are next to useless) to the modern type, I was able to buy just the oil rings without the rest.

Bass is right. Most suppliers will sell you just one ring, if you want.
I destroyed 2 rings and got them overnighted to me in 2 days from Total Seal

Hastings rings will supply one single no problems.

You need the top compression ring from a #533 std. set

Just make sure you have the modern oil rings in the third groove and throw the bottom 4th groove rings away-not needed.

Yes, If you have the modern 3 piece third ring, you don't need the 4 oil ring. Did that over 15 years ago on a rebuild and the truck is still running and uses no oil.
