Spark plug wire terminal - Crimp, Solder, or neither?
I'm ready to run some plug wires I purchased a while back, and they came with these terminals. I've done some digging, but really can't find info anywhere as to how these are to be attached to the wire. I'm guessing that they are not crimped, but not sure. Also, the wires I purchase have about 1/16" of the core wire extending past the insulation. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Everyone. Ziggster I believe you put the bare wire thru the tip, crimp the wings to the side of the rubber jacketing, solder the tip and trim the excess.

Wire ends with core protruding. I should mention that these ends are those that go into the distributor caps.

Re: Spark plug wire terminal - Crimp, Solder, or neither?
The original Ford tips that JM35 had in his stash when I had to do the job a couple of years ago, were the same style but I believe they weren't brass. They were stamped 1 thru 8.
You want to get a good solder and crimp on the wings. The design is there's a ridge that snaps into the inner cap. Removing them from the inner requires tugging on the wire.

Re: Spark plug wire terminal - Crimp, Solder, or neither?
I saw the ones which are soldered and there is a hole in the center for the wire to go through, but mine has a "reverse" tip that seems to be meant to drive into the core wire. Something I found here on the Barn...

Re: Spark plug wire terminal - Crimp, Solder, or neither?
Just spoke with Brillman. This style is just meant to be finger pinched with the core wire being flush with the insulator, but he did suggest soldering like Jeff and David suggested. He said that is what people used to do before the solder style became available at a later date. Solder style below.

I strip off 1/2” of insulation, insert the bare wire thru to hole in the terminal, fold the wire over and insert into the distributor cap. Bare wire tightens the connection.
