Default Mail Truck Tail Light Ground

Replaced “trailer” brake lites with original style tail light brackets and 6 volt LED teacup lites. Now I have no working lites. Since the bracket bolts to the wooden body I am pretty sure I have a ground issue. What did the old timers do to ground wooden body tail lites? My next step is to add a ground wire from each tail light brackets to the truck frame. The commercial teacup bucket is grounded to the bracket now that I cleaned off some powder coating. Looking for an original look but will do anything that works.

Thanks in advance!

I'd go with a reproduction cloth-insulated wire so it looks period correct. Or use a slip-on asphalt sleeve.
